pahxc: WHOS'S IN KRUTCH
Richie Krutch: krutch is: me (Richie) on the guitar,
Father Karl on vocals, Simon Smooth on
bass, Battle on skins, Chris the brain on guitar, Big Poppa Joe
vocals &
various other shit...
pahxc: HOW MANY PEOPLE DID WE HAVE TO BEAT UP TO
BE LABELED A TOUGH GUY BAND?
Richie Krutch: Good question, we became a "Tough
Guy" band in 96', before that we where only
in a triple A tough guy league....But in 96 we beat up the
required amount to
turn "PRO Tough Guy band"...I believe the number was
666..We are very very
proud of our "TOUGH GUY BAND" Status, originally we
where going to be a
"Youth Crew" band, but we where not skinny enough..then
we decided to try
"Emo", but noone in the band wore glasses, plus
sweaters make me itch..The
whole Vegan thing woulda been great for us, except for the fact
that we love
to torture animals and stuff, so eventually we tried this
"Tough Guy" style
out, and it's workin' out O.K.
pahxc: KRUTCH HAS BEEN A BIG PART OF PAHC, HOW
WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE SCENE NOW
COMPARED TO WHEN YOU FIRST STARTED?
Richie Krutch:
Geez, when we first started
off, there was nothing that we knew of going on,
i mean the only shows in PA. that we where aware of where in
Allentown, Pa.
at a Club called O.J.'s and another place called "The
Airport Music Hall",
also Reading Pa. was having shows, but we never went to
those...that place
(airport) is now infamous, mad amounts of white power
professional wrestling
looking types of skinheads would be there at any givin time. VERY
very
violent, always riots..But they had the best shows...Only bands
from Pa. I
remember hearing about back then was "S*W*A*T"
(exmushmouth guys) and "No
Ones Hero" that was like 87/91 maybe, I'm not sure, but we
recorded first in
89, just for ourselves, we really had no where to put this demo,
we played
like a dozen shows from 90/93 then we tried to get serious, at
that time we
started hitting shows in Scranton Wilkes Barre and also booking
our own in
Stroudsburg..About 95/97 I think the PAHC was greeat, always good
bands
passing through, lotta clubs having shows, kids doing 'zines and
shows, good
bands. We got to play out all the time, never had trouble finding
shows...A
real family vibe was in the air back then...Now a few years
later...99/2000..Aww, it's O.K., PAHC gotta get hyped again...So
comparing it
to when we first began to now. i would have to use three stages
at
first...Crappy...Then DOPE...Now O.K....
pahxc: WHEN HOW AND WHERE DID KRUTCH GET THEIR
START?
Richie Krutch:
Idea, 88...Recorded 4 songs in
89, played very poorly where ever we could,
mostly parties that would turn into riots. We (the original
members) went to
High School together I moved to Pa. from Newark N.J., our singer
from
Brooklyn N.Y., we are the only 2 original members, in our area of
Pa. at the
time, everyone moved in from either NJ or NY, so we really lived
in a boring
area, we had to drive mad far to see shows, thats kinda why we
started
playing and booking in our area....So where..Poconos
pa....When...90...How...Just getting the word out...
pahxc: WHO FROM KRUTCH IS IN COMIN CORRECT?
Richie Krutch:
Well noone is in Comin Correct
anymore, that was a side project band we did
with Rick Ta Life for anyone who is unfamiliar, we all left that
band. Here
is the story...We where getting ready to do our 2nd tour of
Europe with Comin
Correct, alot of us had to quit our jobs to go, all of us had to
make special
arrangements, but that was fine, we wanted to go. Just before we
where going
to go, we found out about some details we didn't know about. That
detail
being that there was one less ticket then there was supposed to
be, we
decided to all go together or not at all. Rick went without us.
Now we
would never had made that decision, we don't hold it against
Rick, but thats
what happend, he did what he thought he had to do, we woulda just
fronted
loot for the extra ticket on our own but he wasn't down for that.
Through
out the years I became real close to Rick, he is still a good
friend, I don't
hold that against him, but I woulda did things different.
pahxc: YOU HAVE A NEW FULL LENGTH CD AND A SPLIT
CD COMING OUT< CAN WE HAVE SUM
DETAILS?
Richie Krutch:
Hell yea you can have details
my brother...The full length is out now on
Cartel Records, dope ass layout produced by HoyaRoc of Madball,
it's 12
songs, alot of old material from split 7's and demos, that are
not available
anymore all remastered, also 2 brand new tracks, 2 covers a
Warzone song "As
One" that can also be found on Hatecore Rec. raybeez CD
tribute Comp. and the
other cover song is Y*O*T by Youth Of Today, and 1 track taken
from out first
recording from 89' that was never released before. the split will
be out in
Jan. on THORNZ Records...It's with No Retreat Our PAHC brother,
their drummer
is the drummer on that Krutch track from 89' he was our original
drummer, he
moved to Pittsburgh and started this band, if you only heard old
NR stuff
disregard it, the new stuff is great..Anyway 5 brand new trax
from each band.
then soon after that we just finished our full length, like an
hour of
music, crazy sick stuff all brand new, alot of surprises
pahxc: HOW DID YOU COME ABOUT PUTTING THIS RECORD
ON CARTEL?
Richie Krutch:
Well lets just say OP and the
Cartel squad are "Friends Of Ours" Cartel is a
real underground HC label, and those are the kinds we always
worked with,
BTB/RPP/InnerRage/EOH all underground and hardcore, they know
whats up, and
they do a good job.
pahxc: KRUTCH IS VERY MOB ORIENTED IS ANYONE IN
THE BAND INVOLVED WITH ORGANIZED
CRIME, DO YOU HAVE ANY HITS OUT ON ANYONE RIGHT NOW?
Richie Krutch:
Yes, we are all involved in
the underworld organized crime circuit, hardcore
just does not pay the bills. 2 members of Krutch are indeed made
members in
a major player organized crime family, the other 3 are associates
that are
contracted by the same famliy. Krutch is our crew representing
the B*F*L
Crime Family, we have not been involved with any hits since 97,
now basically
we are working on extortion rings, it's much safer until the heat
goes down,
then back to our high paying hits. We are planning to take a hit
out on Fred
from Triple Crown Records as soon as the details are planned out
properly.
DO YOU HAVE ANY PLANS TO SUPPORT THE NEW RELEASES?
Yea April or after I think we may do A European tour.
pahxc: DID KRUTCH EVER OFFICIALLY BREAK UP?
Richie Krutch:
No, we played what we called
"Our last Show" because we knew it would be a
long time before we played again, but at that same time we where
in the
studio recording, so we knew we would have to play again to
support that
release, we stopped playing because our singer and bass player
both knocked
up some broads, Karl has a baby girl named Emerson, and Simon has
a boy named
Colby, good looking kids. So we took a break, we all did our own
thing, our
drummer myself and Chris recorded a full length side project
called Divided
with Battle on vocals, I joined Mushmouth, since then I moved to
SC to work,
but I'll be back north soon. So it was always understood we would
be back,
but to call that show our last was an advertising scheme.
pahxc: WHAT IS KRUTCHS DEFINITION OF HARDCORE?
Richie Krutch:
Hmm, well you gotta look out
for all the bands, be cool with everyone, you
can't take shit off people though, thats not hardcore, if someone
talks
trash, you knock their teeth out, but don't start no beef..Just
look out, be
cool..Stay underground, it's not what you play, it's what you
say. it's not
about old school...it's about the scene..
pahxc: WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE AMISH SUBCULTURE
IN PENNSYLVANIA?
Richie Krutch:
Well i really never see those
loony guys, I don't live in that area..i think
it's nuts, I mean come on, ya think cause you drive a horse and
buggy you are
gonna go to heaven? they do all this stuff, get with it. they are
really
mean to their kids, always smacking them around and what not. I
think heir
nuts, I mean I hope your not Amish, I would hate to insult you,
but they are
crazy. Whats the point of being like behind the times. I mean why
not use a
car? So before cars did the Amish refuse to use horse and
buggies? And
before candle did they live in caves? To me its a cult, get with
it. Know
what though, those Amish niggas won't have to worry about Y2K or
anything
like that..but aww..their nuts.
pahxc: OVER ALL THE YEARS YOU HAVE BEEN TOGETHER
AS A BAND, HAS THE MOTIVATION TO
STICK TOGETHER AS A BAND CHANGED ALOT, AND WHAT DIRECTION IS THE
BAND HEADED
IN TODAY?
Richie Krutch:
ya know, our band has always
been real tight, we chill out all the time, not
just for practice and for shows, but honestly, we where always
lazy, and
never really did this band the right way, we just have fun with
it i guess.
As for our direction now...We are totally taking this seriously,
we will be
on a major label in the next year and plan to tour
extensively...naw just
playing, we will be lazy as usual.
pahxc: FINALLY, ANY THANX SHOUT OUTS?
